Subsidized put options as alternatives to price supports

Subsidized put options as alternatives to price supports

Staff Report, Economic Research Service, US Department of Agriculture (AGES870911): 72-83

This paper gives a brief overview of the modelling effort underway at USDA to estimate the market effects and costs and benefits of the use of futures and options, and it presents some preliminary estimates for a subsidized put option programme for soyabeans. A model of a market for an annually produced storable commodity is first presented.
