In field trials at Ostoi in 1981-84, wheat Liwilla and Maris Huntsman sown at 400, 600 or 800 seeds/msuperscript 2 were given combinations of 0-100 kg N/ha at the start of growth in spring and 0-50 kg at Feekes stage (FS) 6-7 and 11-12. Increasing N rate in spring reduced av. grain yield from 6.03 to 5.87 t/ha, although yield was increased in 1982; later N applications did not affect yield.
