The effect of stocking rate and grazing management of sheep during winter on liveweight performance and herbage production

The effect of stocking rate and grazing management of sheep during winter on liveweight performance and herbage production

Research and Development in Agriculture 4(3): 141-146

Sheep performance and herbage production were estimated during winter on permanent pasture overlying heavy clay soils in a high rainfall area. Store lambs (mean liveweight 37 kg) were set-stocked (S), grazed in 7-day paddocks (7), or strip-grazed and offered fresh grass every 2 days at stocking rates of 6(L), 10(M) or 14(H)/ha from 4 November 1982 to 28 February 1983. A comparison was made on S with the exclusion of sheep from the sward on 6 January 1983 (SJ).
