The effects of season and age of phosphorus source on the relationship between maize yield and phosphorus soil test on a highly weathered soil

Data from trials in 1981-82 (a dry year) and 1983-84 were used to study and compare the efficiency of residual and applied P as measured by 3 soil test procedures and P sorption isotherms in supplying P to maize cropped continuously since 1972 and given 0-120 kg P/ha annually until 1980-81 when plots were split with subplots receiving no further applied P. Max. yields were about 3 and 7 t/ha in the 2 years, resp., and the opt. P soil test did not differ between the 3 methods.
