The genetic variants of transferrin in different strains of brown cattle

The genetic variants of transferrin in different strains of brown cattle

The transferrin variants were detected in 169 Brown cows of the European strain (Bruna Alpina) in 35 cows of the USA strain (Brown Swiss) and in 78 crosses between the two strains. The comparison among the allelic and genotypic frequencies in these groups of animals showed a significant differences between the European and the American strains due to the higher frequencies of E allele and DE and EE genotypes in the latter. The Tf variant frequencies observed in the Brown cattle were also compared with those of a previous research on the Holstein-Friesian breed.
