The immune response in amoebiasis

Journal of the Egyptian Society of Parasitology 18(1): 335-339

The immune response in amoebiasis

Cell-mediated immune response as measured by the macrophage inhibition and lymphoblast transformation tests was assessed in line with the humoral immune response as measured by the indirect haemagglutination test in 16 patients with amoebic liver abscess, 23 patients with acute amoebic colitis and 20 healthy controls. The study revealed marked suppression of the cell-mediated immune response and an elevated antibody titre in patients with amoebic liver abscess than in those with acute amoebic colitis.
