The influence of sowing rates and nitrogen fertilizer level on yield and yield components in spring wheat cultivars

In field trials in 1978-80, spring wheat Alfa, Jara, N-952 and Sappo were sown at 350, 500 or 650 viable seeds/msuperscript 2 and given 50, 100 or 150 kg N/ha in 2 applications. Applying >100 kg N/ha reduced yield in 1978 but had little effect in 1979-80. Optimum sowing rate was 350 seeds/msuperscript 2 in 1978 and 500/msuperscript 2 in 1979-80.
