International tourism over recent years has sustained remarkable development which has assured it a major place in world trade. Between 1950-70, receipts from tourism increased on average by 11%, as against 6% for exports of primary products, and by the end of the period, world tourism accounted for 6.5% of total exports, compared with 3.4% in 1950.
