Thyroid-stimulating hormone response tests in one-day-old foals

Thyroid-stimulating hormone response tests in one-day-old foals

Journal of Equine Veterinary Science 8(4): 310-312

Thyroid function was measured in ten, day-old foals, using the thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) response test. Baseline triiodothyronine (T3) concentrations in individual animals ranged from 26.0-732.7 ng/dl with mean concentrations of 366.54+or-222.54 ng/dl (SD). Mean resting thyroxine (T4) concentrations were 13.63+or-5.12 micro g/dl (SD) with an individual animal range of 4.4-25.1 micro g/dl.
