Tick control constraints in Tanzania

Tick control constraints in Tanzania

Proceedings of the 2nd Tanzania Veterinary Association Scientific Conference held at Arusha International Conference Centre 4th-6th December, 1984: recd 60-77

In Tanzania, there were 1700 cattle dips and 64 spray races for about 13 million head of cattle in 1984, but more than 65% of cattle mortality was attributable to tick-borne diseases. The acaricides used in tick control were toxaphene Delnav Bacdip and chlorfenvinphos. The constraints to tick control in the country are discussed. They include inadequate availability of acaricides, the low ratio of dips to livestock, mismanagement of dips and shortages of resources.
