Tillage practices to conserve soil and improve soil conditions

Tillage practices to conserve soil and improve soil conditions

Journal of Soil Conservation, New South Wales 40(2): 78-87

In long term field trials at two sites in New South Wales, the effects of reduced tillage and of direct drilling were compared with effects of conventional tillage on soil physical properties and soil conservation. Reduced tillage and direct drilling resulted in increased soil organic matter content, reduced bulk density, increased sorptivity, hydraulic conductivity and infiltration, and reduced runoff and sediment loss, in comparison with conventional tillage.
