Timing of artificial insemination and lambing outcome

The present experiment was to determine if a reduction in time from progestogen withdrawal to time of insemination would affect lambing performance to the synchronized oestrus. 715 ewes on 21 farms were treated in the autumn of 1984 with commercial progestogen sponges. At sponge withdrawal an intramuscular injection of 500 IU PMSG was administered. Artificial insemination was timed to take place 52 or 56 h later.
