Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to whole-body autoradiography after being on diets with low, normal or high contents of essential fatty acids (EFA) and were given by injection a single dose of albumin-bound 1-14C-labelled linoleic, linolenic or arachidonic acid. At 1 h after inoleic acid was given, radioactivity in the tissues of rats on low-EFA diet was higher than for rats on normal-EFA and high-EFA diets.
