A long-term project to study the effects of repeated annual applications of bromacil to asparagus NZ Beacon was established with transplanted crowns on a Horotiu sandy loam soil in 1981. Rates between 1.2 and 3.2 kg/ha applied over the last 5 years had no detrimental effect on fern production, number of stems or spears or the gross or marketable yield of spears.
