The tractive performances of a small tracked dumper truck and a conventional wheeled tractor were assessed on 5 different field surfaces. The tracked vehicle could efficiently pull twice the load of a wheeled tractor of the same effective weight. The range over which it could pull efficiently was also much wider. The max. tractive efficiency of the 2 vehicles was very similar despite the high rolling resistance of the crawler.
