Wheat and sunflower seeds were germinated for 5 days on filter paper soaked with trifluralin at concn corresponding to 0.1 and 0.5 kg/ha. Depending on the plant species, trifluralin caused various ultrastructural modifications of primary root meristematic cells. In wheat, the nuclear apparatus was most affected, the formation of cell walls after division was inhibited and cells became large and polynucleate.
