Ultrastructural study of the effect of various drugs on Leishmania mexicana in experimentally infected golden hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus)

Ultrastructural study of the effect of various drugs on Leishmania mexicana in experimentally infected golden hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus)

Revista Iberica de Parasitologia 46(3): 317-324

The effect of some antileishmanials on lesions caused by L. mexicana in hamsters and on L. mexicana amastigotes (as observed by EM) was investigated. Amphotericin B and ketoconazole produced a significant decrease in lesion size and some membrane damage in the amastigotes was observed after treatment with ketoconazole. Rifampicin, co-trimoxazole (trimethoprim plus sulphamethoxazole) and chlorpromazine had a similar effect to that caused by N-methyl glucamine used in a control group.
