Visna maedi: sero-epidemiological survey in sheep and goat flocks of Matera Province

Serum samples were collected at random from 1101 sheep and 762 goats in 22 flocks, 14 of them mixed sheep and goat flocks, in nine districts. Positive reactions were given by 22 sheep (2%), but none of the goats, although all the reactor sheep were in 4 of the mixed flocks, 3 of which were in the Ferrandina district and one in the Stigliano district.
