Weed competition in irrigated groundnuts, variety Ashford, in the Rahad Scheme, Sudan

In trials in furrow-irrigated groundnuts Ashford, the continuous presence of weeds, predominantly broadleaved species in 3 of the 4 seasons of the trial and predominently grasses, particularly Sorghum arundinaceum, in the other season, reduced the number of pods and branches and increased the length of the stems and internodes. Crop stand and yield were reduced by 51-94% and 80-100%, resp.
