A new method for estimating the density of populations of the small predacious carabid Bembidion lampros was developed in Denmark. After application of water to the soil in a cauliflower field, beetles appeared on the surface where they could be collected. Catches did not differ significantly between the rates of water applied (20, 40 or 60 litres/msuperscript 2).
