Yield and quality of sugarbeet in long-term trials with nitrogen fertilizer and compost application

In long-term field trials since 1955 at Prague-Ruzyne on clayey hnedozem soil, sugarbeet Dobrovicka A was grown with or without composted stable manure and earth combined with 0, 100 or 200 kg N + 35 kg P and 100 kg K/ha. The sugarbeet was grown in rotation with spring wheat with the straw ploughed in at harvest. In the treatments given composted manure there was no advantage in terms of root yield, sugar content or refined sugar yield in applying more than 100 kg N.
