'Fall mosaic' of loblolly pine in a forest tree nursery

'Fall mosaic' of loblolly pine in a forest tree nursery

Tree Planters' Notes 40(1): 19-22

A mosaic pattern of yellow and green seedlings has been observed in loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) seedbeds in the autumn (fall) in several nurseries in the southern USA. Seedlings and soil were studied in 4 adjacent beds in an Alabama nursery. Seed was sown in April 1983. Weeds and fusiform rust were controlled and nitrogen fertilizer was applied before sowing and in July. Three beds were undercut on 9 Aug. and all beds were undercut on 21 Sep.
