A comparison of performance variables of highly profitable mid-priced hotels/motels with marginally profitable or losing operations

Hospitality Education and Research Journal 13(1): 13-30

The major purpose of this research was to compare performance variables of highly profitable hotel/motel operations with marginally profitable or losing operations to determine which variables have a significant impact on profitability. The study involves 40 mid-priced hotels/motels in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and South Carolina in the USA. Balance sheet and profit and loss data from these properties were analysed for 2 concurrent fiscal years.
