A land evaluation of three Ujamaa villages in Dodoma region, Tanzania

The policy of introducing ujamaa (family) villages transformed the physical settlement pattern in Tanzania without a prior assessment of land suitability. Using the FAO Framework for Land Evaluation a study of three ujamaa villages in the Dodoma Region, central Tanzania found that only 1% of the land is highly suitable for cropping.
