The distribution of the ectoparasite Tropilaelaps clareae on the brood of Apis dorsata was studied in Thailand. The distribution was aggregated and fitted the negative binomial distribution if parasite-associated host mortality is presumed. As no brood mortality was directly observed, this presumed mortality was accounted for through the removal of infested late-instar larval brood or pupae with their parasites, by worker nurse bees.
