A new description of the process of identification of plant parasitic nematode genera

Traditional identification aids and a new approach which defines the way an expert identifies forms within his area of expertise, are discussed. The concepts of promorph, a form that can be recognized at low magnification before observation of detailed morphology and nest of species, a group of species that share the same set of primary identification criteria, are reviewed.
