A note on genetics of yield in okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench.)

An evaluation of 6 parents and their 8 F1s, 8 F2s and 16 backcrosses revealed the presence of non-allelic interactions for yield in all crosses except Vaishalivadhu X IC16260, Pusa Sawani X IC16260 and Long Green X EC68475, suggesting that epistasis was important in the expression of yield. The 3 exceptions exhibited partial to complete dominance for yield, with additive gene effects being significant.
