A note on spontaneous mixoploid in Capsicum

Current Science, India 57(8): 435-436

Meiotic studies conducted on a semisterile variant of the C. annuum LCA250 revealed that PMCs with diploid and tetraploid chromosome numbers were intermixed, with frequencies of 64.7% and 35.2%, respectively. In diploid cells, rod bivalents occurred more frequently than ring bivalents. Chromosome associations such as quadrivalents and trivalents, ranging from 5-8 and 0-2 per cell, respectively, were seen in tetraploid cells.
