A note on the effect of presoaking in sodium salt solution on germination of rice in coastal saline soil

In a 3-year laboratory experiment rice Jaya seeds were soaked in 0-3% NaCl or NaH2PO4 solutions for 24 h before sowing in a saline soil (pH 7.7, EC 18.2 dS/m). Germination was improved by soaking seeds in 2 or 2.5% NaCl or 1.0 or 1.5% NaH2PO4 solutions. Maximum germination (90.56%) after 4 d was obtained by soaking seeds in 2.5% NaCl solution.
