A ploidy variant regenerated from embryogenic tissue cultures of soybean

A ploidy variant regenerated from embryogenic tissue cultures of soybean

Soybean Genetics Newsletter 14: 161-163

In 1985, seeds of regenerated (R2) plants from soyabean embryonic tissue cultures were grown near Champaign, Illinois. In 1986 additional R2, and R3 seed harvested from R2 plants in 1985, was planted with sexually-derived control plants from seed of the regenerated genotypes. Seeds from single plants were bulked at each generation. Alterations in fertility, maturity, height and variegation were seen. An R2 family of Gem (Group II), consisting of 4 plants, was morphologically abnormal.
