A polymorphic protein character of red blood cells (EP-1) in domesticated and wild sheep

A polymorphic protein character of red blood cells (EP-1) in domesticated and wild sheep

Journal of Heredity 81(3): 206-208

Polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis of erythrocyte lysates of 447 domestic sheep from 11 breeds and 92 wild sheep revealed polymorphism of a protein fraction which was named erythrocyte protein-1 (EP-1). Family data indicated that the variants were due to 2 codominant alleles (EP-1A and EP-1B) at an autosomal locus. All populations, with 1 exception, were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium.
