A possible involvement of competitive protein binding substances in the dynamics of gonadotrophins during the estrous cycle in rats

For oestrous rats (8 per group), injected with 100 IU PMSG + saline, 1 ml of the albumin fraction of serum from dioestrous rats + 100 IU PMSG 3 h later, 1 ml of the globulin fraction of serum from dioestrous rats + 100 IU PMSG, 100 IU HCG + saline, dioestrous albumin + 100 IU HCG or dioestrous globulin + 100 IU HCG, the biological half-life of exogenous PMSG averaged 13.37, 28.22, 28.17, 16.05, 130.6 and 119.05 min resp., the corresponding figures for dioestrous rats receiving the above 6 treatments being 33.78, 29.33, 14. 93, 21.05, 60.27 and 60.83 min. It was concluded that protein- binding substances may play an important part in the dynamics of gonadotropin behaviour and in particular that of PMSG during oestrus.
