A possible role for 3' sequences of the wound-inducible potato proteinase inhibitor IIK gene in regulating gene expression

Tobacco plants transformed with 1 kb of the 5' and 1 kb of the 3' flanking regions of proteinase inhibitor (PI) IIK gene from potato fused with the CAT (chloramphenicol acetyltransferase) gene, exhibited a systemically mediated CAT expression when wounded. Although the wound-induced expression was relatively weak in planta, the fused gene was strongly expressed in excised leaf tissues or when introduced into tobacco protoplasts by electroporation.
