A possible role for the double-podded character in stabilizing the grain yield of chickpea

A possible role for the double-podded character in stabilizing the grain yield of chickpea

Indian Journal of Pulses Research 2(2): 97-101

The value of double-pods in Cicer arietinum improvement was assessed by evaluating the single-podded Annigeri and its double-podded mutant under normal-sowing (Oct.) and late-sowing (Nov.) conditions, with and without postsowing irrigation. Postsowing irrigations and normal sowing increased seed yields. The double-podded mutant matured earlier but had smaller seeds and gave lower yield that its single-podded parent.
