A preliminary analysis of growth, real-time ultrasound, carcass and pork quality traits in Duroc and Landrace pigs

In a 2 x 2 diallel crossbreeding study with Duroc and Landrace pigs. Duroc-sired pigs were older at 104 kg body weight, had a shorter carcass with a lower backfat thickness and longissimus muscles with a larger cross sectional area, higher lipid content and lower water content than Landrace-sired pigs (P<0.05). There were no significant breed differences for meat quality traits.
