A preliminary investigation of the relationship between the heritability of development period in rice and weather conditions

In field trials involving 17 midseason rice cultivars, hsuperscript 2GP (broad-sense heritability of days from sowing to heading) was estimated at 6 sowing dates (May 10, 20, 30 and June 10 in 1982-83, April 30 and June 20 in 1984) at 3 sites (Yangzhong, Piaoyang and Gaochun, Jiangsu). Average hsuperscript 2GP estimates varied from 52.5 to 80.5% (with a coefficient of variation (CV) of 8.5-18.9 5%) among sowing-dates, and from 62.4 to 77. 0% (with CV of 22.8-24.6%) among years.
