A preliminary report of heredity of leaf angle in sorghum

Sorghum leaf angle was genetically analysed in 11 ecotypes under field conditions during 1980-83. Results showed that it displayed significant differences among genotypes, with mean angle in the range of 16.8-77.4 degrees. The mean value (39.53 degrees ) for the F1s of 15 crosses approximated to the midparental value (39.93 degrees ). Typical normal-distribution of leaf angles in F2 revealed that it was a quantitative trait.
