A preliminary study on inducing root flesh color mutation in sweet potato using ethylmethane sulfonate and adventitious bud technique

A preliminary study on inducing root flesh color mutation in sweet potato using ethylmethane sulfonate and adventitious bud technique

Philippine Journal of Crop Science 13(Suppl. 1): S17

Mutants with pure yellow tuber flesh were induced in ViSCA Sweet Potato 2 (VSP2), which has yellow flesh tinged with purple, by using ethyl methanesulfonate. Concentrations of 0.05 to 0.25% gave the best survival of adventitious buds (<more or =>50%). These buds were rooted and grown into plants. Cytological analysis, however, revealed an increased incidence of chromosome aberration.
