A sand culture hydroponic system for cultivation of leafy vegetables

, : A sand culture hydroponic system for cultivation of leafy vegetables. Agricultural engineering Proceedings of the 11th international congress on agricultural engineering: 2691-2695

A sand culture system consisting of 4 concrete trays measuring 1.5 x 13.5 m each was designed and constructed, and planted with 2 types of leafy vegetable. The system had a simple roof of transparent plastic sheets and no wall. A closed irrigation system with a submersible pump that was automatically controlled to supply fertilizer solution through drip lines was also provided. The suitability of 152 and 76 mm deep sand or paddy husk as possible growth media was examined.
