A study of time required for planning, staking and designing parallel terrace systems

Two methods of parallel terrace systems design were evaluated. A field method was used to plan, stake and design the terrace system on the field using tables and hand calculators. For the office method, the terrace system was planned on a topographic map, staked in the field and designed using a computer terrace program. Time required to plan, survey, stake and design the terrace system by the office method was 9% less per unit area than for the field method.
