Age correction factors for tropical dairy records

, : Age correction factors for tropical dairy records. Journal of Animal Production Research 7(2): 113-122

The need for correcting tropical dairy records for age is examined with nearly 4000 records collected from 1470 Hariana cows in a milk colony in Haringhata, India. Age was found to be significantly related to total lactation yield (P<0.05), although it contributed less to variability than reported for temperate breeds. While the maximum likelihood age factors could adequately correct for age in tropical dairy records, the modified ratio method was of comparable efficiency and esier to derive and would therefore seem more appropriate, especially under the circumstances prevailing in most tropical countries.
