Age variation in milk production of Bashkir mares and its use in selection

, : Age variation in milk production of Bashkir mares and its use in selection. Povysh produktiv konevod v Bashk ASSR: 31-34

Data are reported on Bashkir horses at the Ufimsk stud. The milking season starts on 1 Apr., and mares are milked 6 times daily, with 3-h intervals between milkings. Milk recording is carried out twice monthly. The age composition of the mare herd is 34.4% of 3- to 6-yr-olds, 51.2% of 7- to 15-yr-olds, and 14.4% of older mares. Among mares aged 3-4 yr, 50% have a low milk yield (1300 kg), 23% have a medium yield (1301-1700 kg), and 27% have a high yield (>1700 kg).
