The impact of government programmes on disparities of wealth and income between two groups of farmers was studied, relating to Jhapa District, Nepal. Conducted in 1985/86, the study focused on two groups consisting of a random sample of farmers living in a government resettlement area and one of farmers who had illegally taken land adjacent to the government area. The disparities of wealth and income in the two areas proved to be very similar.
