Agricultural development and food security policy in five East-Caribbean Common Market countries: a human technology approach

Research Memorandum Department of Economics, University of Amsterdam (8902): 15
Agricultural development and food security policy in five East-Caribbean Common Market countries: a human technology approach
The paper examines the food problem as an obstacle to sustained development in very small island countries and the way it should be faced and handled by national governments. The five East Caribbean Common Market (ECCM) countries have to deal with smallness and, consequently, vulnerability, in its most rigid form, characterized by dependency on food imports from abroad. The average percentage contribution of agriculture to GDP in the ECCM-countries tends to fluctuate between 20-25%.
