Agricultural production trends in India are analysed, with particular attention being paid to the period covered by the 7th 5-year development plan. Production constraints and ways of increasing production by the year 2000 are discussed. The main determinants of agricultural production are: weather; fertilizer consumption; application of HYVs; and irrigation.
