In field studies on a 10-ha Dactylis glomerata sward at Matsqui, British Columbia, soil moisture content was measured at 5 depths to 1 m at 2-week intervals at 114 randomly selected sites and standard soil chemical and physical properties were analysed. Five biomass samples were collected over an annual growing season usually 2-3 d before sward cutting by the farmer.
