Agricultural research and modern generalizations, realities and conclusions

, : Agricultural research and modern generalizations, realities and conclusions. Journal of International Development 1(1): 168-179

The paper first suggests 7 generalizations relating to the adoption of modern varieties (MV) of crops in Africa South of the Sahara. In each case, exceptions are noted where relevant. Next, 5 conclusions are drawn for MV research as part of a poverty alleviation strategy for the region. Finally these conclusions are compared with some stylized facts about agricultural research in Africa South of Sahara.
