Airport developments and EIA: Kansai International Airport, Japan

Land Use Policy 7(1): 80-86

Construction is underway on the first phase of the Kansai International Airport(KIA), near Osaka, Japan. The airport, which is scheduled for completion in 1993, will be located on a 511 ha reclaimed island connected to the mainland by a 3.8 km road/rail bridge. At a cost of $8500 million, the KIA is expected to revive the economic vitality and boost the international status of the Kansai region.
