A pneumatic tyre is modelled as an elastic, hollow cylinder with basic dimensions corresponding to those of the tyre. Its characteristics are analysed using the finite element method. The elastic properties of the tyre model, such as its Young's modulus, are derived from the measured load-deflection curves of the pneumatic tyre for a given inflation pressure on hard ground, published by the tyre manufacturer.
