Association of allelic variants of gliadin with yield in winter bread wheat in the forest steppe of the Ukraine

In an analysis of the gliadin banding patterns of 4 hybrids in the F2 or more advanced generations, biotypes of 3 cultivars, and various other forms, an association between yield and some allelic variants was found which was to a great extent determined by genetic linkage. For example, material with gliadin block Gld 1A3 was generally higher yielding than that with Gld 1A4, and block Gld 1B3 was associated with higher yield than block Gld 1B1.
